Connected, Cooperative and Automated Mobility is set to transform the way people and goods move across Europe. While much attention has been given to technological innovation, an equally important question remains: how will these developments affect jobs, skills, and the future workforce?

As part of the CCAM-ERAS project, Cambridge Econometrics has developed a new interactive employment tool that allows stakeholders to explore how different CCAM deployment scenarios could shape employment across Europe. The tool provides insights into potential changes at Member State, sectoral, and occupational levels, helping policymakers, industry representatives, researchers, educators, and labour market actors better understand the implications of increasing automation and connectivity in transport.

The analysis is based on a robust modelling framework built on the E3ME macroeconomic model, which assesses the wider economic impacts of CCAM adoption. The tool presents three key deployment scenarios covering warehousing, passenger transport, and freight transport, each examined under alternative pathways reflecting different levels and speeds of CCAM uptake. Users can compare outcomes and explore how labour demand may evolve under different future mobility landscapes.

The employment analysis is supported by extensive research carried out within the CCAM-ERAS project, including supply chain mapping and scenario development activities. By identifying how emerging CCAM technologies influence traditional transport value chains and create new demands in sectors such as ICT, sensing technologies, and advanced infrastructure, the project provides a comprehensive picture of future employment opportunities and challenges.

Understanding these impacts is essential as Europe prepares for a mobility transition that may reshape existing occupations while creating demand for new skills. The insights generated through CCAM-ERAS contribute to evidence-based decision-making and support efforts to ensure that the deployment of automated mobility systems leads to an inclusive and sustainable labour market transition.

The interactive employment tool is now available on the CCAM-ERAS website and offers stakeholders the opportunity to explore the potential labour market impacts of CCAM across Europe.
