Paving the Way for Automated Valet Parking: Collaboration at the European Parking Conference 2025
September 29, 2025

On 18 September, the CCAM Partnership contributed to the 21st European Parking Conference & Exhibition 2025 in Brussels, where CCAM Association Head of Office, Marzena Jougounoux moderated a focus session titled “Paving the Way for Automated Valet Parking: Driving Market Adoption through Collaboration.”
The session was organised under the ERTICO innovation platform Enhancing Automated Valet Parking (EAVP), which unites parking operators, OEMs, authorities, and service providers to address the market gap for Automated Valet Parking (AVP).
The discussion featured speakers from across sectors, each presenting their unique perspectives and ongoing initiatives:
- Frank Daems, ERTICO/ EAVP
- Markus Schneider, EPA/ EAVP
- Klara Svejdova, SKIDATA
- Sarab Tay-Guyot, Valeo
- Manu Bhargava, Valeo
The key outcomes from the discussions are :
- In terms of latest advancements, the Automated Valet Parking (AVP) technology is ready. Vehicle technology and infrastructure exist; we need to modernise where necessary. We are at a turning point as the industry shifts from AVP Type 2 to a more scalable AVP Type 1.
- Our next steps involve finalising the technology with its existing and emerging standards to ensure that information from parking lots is accessible to vehicles. Interoperability is key. The aim is to demonstrate this in the upcoming Lighthouse project.
- We need to integrate new developments, such as Valeo’s crowdsourced 3D mapping of parking areas, which requires less infrastructure support.
- An important aspect moving forward is the marketing strategy to adopt. We need to identify effective ways to promote AVP to users and build their trust. Manufacturers (OEMs) must share their vision on this technology and demonstrate how it can enhance the end-user experience. Well-planned marketing initiatives can contribute to drive the adoption of AVP.
- To build trust, we must focus on safety, robustness, a seamless user experience, and transparency regarding the vehicle’s status when it’s not in sight. Establishing clear boundaries is also essential.
- Collaboration across industries is necessary; coordinating the entire eco-system will be key to seeing AVP take off throughout Europe in a few years.
