Today marks the kick off the European Year of Skills

The European Year of Skills aims to address skills gaps in the European Union and boost the EU skills strategy, which will help reskill people with a focus on digital and green technology skills. This will require helping people get the right skills for quality jobs and helping companies, in particular small and medium enterprises by highlighting national efforts as well as -existing and new EU initiatives and EU funding possibilities. It will support skills-related activities and events across Europe.

The European Year of Skills is putting skills at the heart of the EU policy debate. Having a workforce with the skills that are in demand contributes to sustainable growth, leads to more innovation, and improves companies’ competitiveness. Skilled workers enjoy better job opportunities as well as broader possibilities to fully engage in society. This is key to ensuring that the economic recovery as well as the green and digital transitions are socially fair and just.

The publication of all the CCAM Horizon Europe 2023 Calls, and especially the call dedicated to skills ( HORIZON-CL5-2023-D6-01-05), underlines the necessity and need of high skilled workforce in the transport sector. As CCAM deployment continues, it is crucial to ensure that necessary skills are available and upscaled across a wide range of fields to support job growth and innovation capabilities.  The job market will be disrupted by future technologies, if it hasn’t already. By educating the workforce, we can prepare for the changes.

Throughout the year, various stakeholders, including the Commission, the European Parliament, Member States, social partners, public and private employment services, chambers of commerce and industry, education and training providers, as well as workers and businesses, will work together to promote skills development.
