CCAM SRG holds successful meeting in Athens

From 6-7 October 2025, representatives from EU Member States and Countries Associated with Horizon Europe gathered in Athens for the CCAM States Representatives Group (SRG) meeting. Hosted by ICCS and CERTH, the event brought together representatives from 16 countries, along with members of the CCAM Association and the European Commission, both in person and online.

The first day featured a workshop on digital infrastructure for CCAM, with three research projects – PoDIUM, AugmentedCCAM, and AVINT – presenting their latest results. This was followed by an overview of the EUCARCEDR cooperation. Discussions highlighted the need to go beyond simply digitalising the existing road network and instead to fully embrace digitalisation as an enabler for innovation and efficiency – potentially even supporting road maintenance if used effectively. Participants also emphasised the importance of taking time to validate project outcomes collectively, suggesting that a mapping of knowledge from ongoing and completed projects could help consolidate progress.

On the second day, the meeting focused on the many CCAM-related initiatives currently underway. Topics included the upcoming large-scale CCAM demonstration, the CCAMbassador project, CCAM deployment pathways, the potential automotive partnership under the next Framework Programme, as well as testbeds and regulatory sandboxes, IPCEI-AI, the European Forum for Automated Transport, and the JRC Observatory. Member States underlined the importance of understanding the various streams of work to identify synergies and build long-term cooperation across Europe.

The next in-person CCAM SRG meeting will take place in the first half of 2026 in the United Kingdom, kindly hosted by the Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CCAV). Another extraordinary online meeting might be organised earlier, either in December 2025 or January 2026.
