CCAM welcomes the signing of the Joint Declaration on cross‑border autonomous vehicle testbeds

EU transport ministers took a decisive step toward the coordinated rollout of autonomous mobility in Europe on 8 June 2026. During the Transport Council meeting in Luxembourg, 18 Member States signed a Joint Declaration of Intent to advance large‑scale cross‑border testbeds for autonomous vehicles, in the presence of Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, Apostolos Tzitzikostas.
The signing formalised a shared commitment to enable the deployment of automated vehicles across Europe and to work together on harmonised approval processes, coordinated permitting and practical deployment activities. This direction aligns closely with CCAM’s mission to support coordinated progress and strengthen Europe’s capacity to bring automated mobility solutions into operation.
Participating countries agreed to deepen cooperation on interoperability, regulatory approaches and practical implementation, with deployment activities built around concrete use cases to support large‑scale testing and future cross‑border operations. This coordinated political signal provides greater clarity for the sector and is supported by upcoming workstreams and initial CEF funding for digital infrastructure.
The Joint Declaration was signed by Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland and Sweden.
